Project Overview
We created a comedic TV commercial for Gig, a flexible working app designed to give people freedom over when and how they earn. Through a playful, character-driven narrative, the film highlights the versatility of the platform, showing how work can fit seamlessly around everyday life.
The Challenge
The challenge was to create a humorous, engaging TV commercial that clearly communicated the core benefit of the Gig app: freedom and flexibility. The narrative needed to be funny without feeling forced, and tightly structured so the flow of the film landed each beat with clarity and intention.
Adding to this was the scale of the production. This was a large shoot with a sizeable crew and complex setups, meaning longer turnaround times than our usual working pace. Keeping the production on schedule required careful planning, coordination, and a shared commitment across departments to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day.
Our Approach
The concept followed Jane as she repeatedly bumps into Dave, who seems to be working a different job wherever she goes, from coffee shops to music gigs. The film highlights the versatility of the Gig app, reinforcing the idea that work can fit around life, rather than the other way around.
To ensure the comedy and pacing worked, we placed a strong emphasis on pre-production. An extensive pre-visualisation process allowed us to test ideas, refine transitions, and identify potential issues well in advance. We set up the office space and rehearsed shots repeatedly, questioning what worked, what didn’t, and how each moment flowed into the next. This process continued until we were confident the structure of the film was solid and executable.
Given the scale of the shoot, careful scheduling and forward planning were essential. Longer setup times were accounted for early, and every department worked closely together to maintain momentum. The success of the production relied on discipline, clear communication, and a collective effort to stay on time without compromising the quality of the work.
Outcome
The result was a strong, polished TV commercial that we are incredibly proud of. The client was over the moon with the final film, describing the project as a great success. The piece delivered a clear, engaging message while retaining a playful tone and a high-end finish.
Beyond the film itself, the project was a valuable learning experience. For several members of the crew, this production marked a significant professional step up, one they met with confidence, commitment, and skill. Seeing the team rise to the challenge and deliver at this level was a reminder of the strength of collaboration, and something we couldn’t be prouder of.
