Project Overview
Life at Rainbows is a pair of short documentary films created for Rainbows Children’s Hospice, a charity supporting children, young people, and their families across the East Midlands. The films explore the real-life impact of Rainbows through personal stories, offering an intimate look at care, connection, and support.
The Challenge
The challenge was to tell deeply personal stories within an environment that required the utmost care, sensitivity, and professionalism. As a children’s hospice, Rainbows supports families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, making it imperative that every interaction was approached with kindness, respect, and empathy.
The films needed to communicate the profound impact of Rainbows without intrusion, allowing contributors to feel safe, heard, and in control of how their stories were shared. Balancing emotional honesty with responsibility was central to the challenge.
Our Approach
Our approach was rooted in compassion and attentiveness. We worked closely with the Rainbows team to ensure everyone involved felt comfortable and supported throughout the process. Remaining considerate at all times, we created a calm, respectful environment where contributors could speak openly, without pressure.
Listening was key. Rather than directing moments, we allowed stories to unfold naturally, ensuring each voice was represented with dignity and care. Throughout the process, the project reinforced our belief in the importance of meaningful storytelling and the incredible work carried out daily by the Rainbows staff.
Outcome
The result was a pair of films we are incredibly proud of. Films that felt honest, heartfelt, and reflective of the care and compassion at the heart of Rainbows. We felt the final pieces highlighted the life-changing support the hospice provides and the deep impact of its staff on the children and families they care for, thankfully, so did the wonderful staff at Rainbows.
This project stands as a reminder of why we do what we do. To tell stories that matter. To tell them with integrity, empathy, and crystal clear purpose. We couldn’t be more thankful to be entrusted to tell such amazing stories and for the opportunity to meet such wonderful people.
