Project Overview
We created a city-led documentary film for Cool As Leicester, spending the day with NME award-winning band Easy Life as they revisited the places that shaped them. Touring key spots across Leicester, the film explores the city’s influence on their lives and careers, celebrating both the band and the cultural landscape that helped form them. The project forms part of a wider series spotlighting Leicester’s best exports and the city that made them.
The Challenge
The challenge was to create a film that felt both personal and rooted in place, celebrating Leicester through the voices of some of its most recognisable cultural exports. The piece needed to go beyond a simple city tour, capturing how Leicester has shaped the members of NME award-winning band Easy Life, both creatively and personally.
As part of a wider series spotlighting Leicester’s best exports, the film also needed to sit comfortably alongside other stories, while maintaining a strong sense of individuality and authenticity.
Our Approach
In collaboration with Cool As Leicester, we spent the day with the band exploring key locations across the city, from favourite places to eat to historic venues tied to their early memories. Rather than staging moments, we allowed conversations to unfold naturally, encouraging reflection on how the city influenced their music, identities, and careers.
The approach was deliberately relaxed and observational. By moving through real spaces and revisiting meaningful locations, the film became a portrait not just of the band, but of Leicester itself. For many of us in the studio, being fans of Easy Life added an extra layer of care and enthusiasm to the process, a shared respect that shaped the way the story was told.
Outcome
The result was a warm, engaging film that celebrated both the band and the city that helped shape them. The piece captured a genuine sense of pride, nostalgia, and connection, offering audiences an intimate look at how place and creativity intertwine.
As part of a wider series, the film contributed to a growing archive of stories that highlight Leicester’s cultural impact and the people it has produced. Spending the day with one of the city’s most exciting exports was a privilege, and one that resulted in a film rooted in authenticity, community, and shared experience.
